Religious freedom
Religious freedom is defined as the right to choose what religion to follow and to worship without interference. That begs the question, why do individuals neglect the “without interference” part of the definition? What exactly is the price of religious freedom? Although individuals may start violence over religious differences, and the fact that there will always be controversy over this is true because of disagreements in beliefs, eagerness to express those beliefs, and the sense of superiority from some faiths toward others.
Individuals may try to convert others to their religion, which isn’t an issue when handled peacefully, but when people start to be killed for their beliefs, controversy is started. Many in Australia, for example, are worried that freedom of religion will cause discrimination in their children’s schools, or how the religions that see others as slaves will affect the workplace. Individuals with certain beliefs feel that they are being controlled by the ways of society which do not enable them to freely express their faith comfortably. With the “biblical endorsement of slavery” and the fear of discrimination “based on religion” in our schools, you may be able to tell how individuals may be unwilling to contribute to society, deprived of the “comfortable liberty” of choosing a religion. Religious freedom is the right to worship without interference, and even though arguments may break out between beliefs, matters should be solved peacefully and without intruding on anyone else’s freedom.
Although religious freedom may cause discrimination and insight violence, freedom to choose your beliefs cause individuals to feel less controlled and encourage them to “[contribute] to the” society. Individuals may express their beliefs, and worry that it’ll cause discrimination in our schools and our workplaces. But freedom of religion lets individuals choose what faith to contribute and give more freedom by allowing the worship of their choice. We should all strive for a positive mindset, and allow individuals to worship without interference, to “end discrimination and segregation,” and without the taking of another's life for the individual’s own beliefs.
Religious freedom is a controversy that many choose to attempt to solve with violence, either because a person of one religion may have different beliefs than the individual(s), or the individual(s) attempt to convert a person of a different religion and they refuse. It is fine to have disagreements after all this is America, but once individuals start to get seriously hurt or even killed, it would be going too far right? Will we ever find true freedom without discrimination? I’m not saying we should just appease the individuals who may go too far, but we as a people of America should look for peaceful ways to avert the conflict and to create a positive and open mindset for the community.
