Right to bear arms
What is the Second Amendment? The Second Amendment is “an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.” Unfortunately, changes to gun control laws is likely not happening because the Second Amendment states that the “right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. The Second Amendment is America's most controversial freedom because it has limited restrictions on gun laws.
What is the price of gun rights? Gun rights lead to gun violence, but guns provide protection, relieve stress, and add confidence to the gun owner. Gun control advocates argue that citizens should have a restriction on how many guns a person can buy. A US citizen can buy a shotgun and/or a rifle at the age of 18, but a person can also buy a pistol at age 21. If a mental teen can buy a shotgun legally, then they can cause shootings. “More than 500 people die every day because of violence committed with firearms”. The US should change the age to purchase any gun to the age of 21.
Although, The Second Amendment is the US most controversial freedom. I believe that people should be allowed to own a gun, but we should be limited to how many guns a person can own. I also believe that a person will have to have a background check to buy a gun. In conclusion, we should be more cautious about who buys guns.
